A convenor, not a delivery agency.
Established in November 2021, around COP26, by partners across the county and city following a summit of the region’s sustainability leaders.
The Commission brings industry, local government, community organisations and academia together to accelerate climate action and nature recovery across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent.
We do not deliver projects ourselves. We convene the organisations that do — setting a shared evidence base, agreeing priorities across administrative boundaries, and holding the county’s progress up to public view. Membership is by organisation, with more than one member from any organisation able to join.
The Commission began with climate action alone. Since 2023 its remit covers climate and nature recovery together, on the evidence that the two cannot be delivered separately in a county of moorland, farmland, canals and former industrial land.
Our work is published openly. Papers, minutes and terms of reference are available to partners and residents alike, and our emissions baseline is free for any member to reuse in its own reporting.
